Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health, Pune is the state level institute of the Government of Maharashtra working in the field of mental health. This institute is functioning under the administrative control of Medical Education and drugs department, Government of Maharashtra. The founder Director and well known actor Dr. Mohan Agashe submitted a proposal - STRIMHANS (State Training and Research Institute in Mental Health and Neurosciences) to the government regarding the establishment of institute to fill up the gaps in the field of mental health and the lack of trained manpower. Accordingly the institute was established on 18th March, 1991 in campus of Sassoon General Hospital, Pune.
The Institute is working in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry, B.J.Govt. Medical College. Outpatient and Inpatient services are provided to the persons with mental illness by the institute. Institute provides comprehensive and holistic mental health services for the prevention & treatment of mental health disorders and also for the promotion of positive mental health in the society.
