The institute has well developed department of Psychiatric Nursing. The department currently run M. Sc. Nursing (Psychiatric Nursing) and Post Basic Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing courses. The department is actively involved in imparting knowledge, specific training in psychological therapies, building a therapeutic alliance, dealing with challenging behavior, rehabilitation of patient, psych-education about prevention of mental illness and promotion of mental health.
Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health has well equipped clinical psychology department. The department of clinical Psychology works in the area of patient care, teaching, clinical services, resource development and community services. It has a major role in the process of disability certification for Intellectual Disability, Learning Disability, Psychometric assessments and psycho-therapeutic work-up. Apart from regular lectures, group activities, film screening, discussions on recent updates in therapy are also conducted. To enhance the subject knowledge and practical skills of the students, department organizes workshops and guest lectures where experts from the field are invited. Outreach activities are also carried out by the department such as stress management workshops to the Government & Corporate sector. Learning Disability workshops for school teachers are also conducted. Students from different colleges of Maharashtra are provided observership by the department."
The aim of the M.Sc. Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as nurse specialist, consultants, educators, administrators in a wide variety of professional setting.
M.Sc. PSYCHIATRIC NURSING
There are 10 seats per academic year.
The duration of the Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing is of two academic years.
On Completion of the two years M.Sc. Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing Programme, the graduate will be able to
Utilize/apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
Demonstrate advance competence in practice of nursing.
Practice as a nurse specialist.
Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as nurse educator and manager.
Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health related research
Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in nursing practice and in the health care delivery system.
Establish collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines
Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement.
The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with State Nursing Registration Council.
The Minimum education requirements shall be passing of B.Sc. Nursing /Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks. 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidate may be given.
The candidate should have undergone in B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing in an institute recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
Candidate shall be medically fit.
