Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) is a state level, apex government institute, established by the Government of Maharashtra. It is an academically oriented institute for the training of medical and non- medical professionals in Preventive, Diagnostic, Curative and Rehabilitative aspects of the various fields of mental health care both at the undergraduate and post-graduate level.
It aims to produce well trained personnel in the field of mental health care namely Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing and other related fields of mental health care. It also undertakes needs based research for mental health care in the state and country. It also helps in the framing of guidelines for mental healthcare and relevant social issues in mental health.
The training emphasises on a community based care approach to strengthen the Mental Health Programs at the National and Regional level. From being confined mainly to the department of Psychiatry, B J Government Medical College & Sassoon General Hospital Pune, it has now grown and has a speciality section, auditorium, hostel & library at Pashan, Pune.
